NorCal teams that previously competed in the NCVA Premier League will now compete in the newly formed Northern California AAU league for the 2017 season. This new league is designed to be competitive but with limited travel. All tournaments will be in the South Bay. NorCal will offer 3 teams U12, U13/U14, and U15/U16. The league will consist of 4 one day tournaments and a 2 day tournament. The season will run from early December through May with the first tournament occurring in late January. Teams will practice 2 days per week with one practice being on Friday – Sunday. There will be one coach per team with the potential of a volunteer assistant coach.
Play time will be determined by attendance and performance at both practices and tournaments. NorCal teams competing in the AAU league will “strive for 25”. This means they will strive to achieve at least 25% play time for every player that has an appropriate practice attendance record. While this is the goal, it is not a requirement, as game conditions and situations may impact play time.
Tournaments will be composed of 9 teams with every team playing 4 matches. Morning play will be a pool of 3 teams. The afternoon pools will be comprised of the first, second, and third place teams from the morning pools (i.e. first place teams will be in a pool, second place teams in a pool, etc.).
These teams will be formed after a tryout which will occur at the same time as the Power League tryout the first weekend in November.
